The post everyone has been waiting for…2021’s by the numbers. About 650 miles less than last year but more time….I think the time has to do a lot with the Colorado Trail days honestly since I counted those as full days away/riding even though some of it was sleeping. However some of the point of this is to know how long I’m gone from the house and Family. Once again I’m not really sure what all this means. I know a lot of people that ride a lot more than this and a lot of people that ride a lot less than this. It’s always fascinating to me to see when the numbers back up what I’m feeling.
This year has been another crazy year between work and the family it feels like a blur. From what I understand that isn’t really going to change either. The rides trended to be on the short side again, I also spent a lot more time mountain biking this year than on the gravel bike. This was kind of intentional as my true “love” of bikes does tend to come from being in the woods. I’m a little surprised to see the numbers on the Revolt being relatively low but it was a pretty good year for conditions in the woods so I guess that makes sense. I really do ride the revolt more when the conditions aren’t great for mountain bikes.
I have actually come to really enjoy the morning rides, particularly in the fall and winter when the sunrises are epic about 50% of the time. There really is no matching the colors and spectacular nature of the sun coming up while you’re out riding. There are also a few trails that descend right into the sunrise this time of year. When you time those correctly it’s pretty magical. I’ve been trying to get a video of what that looks like but so far I’ve been unsuccessful.
It would be hard to look at this without mentioning Katie for being (mostly) supportive of this passion of mine. Even though I ride early most of the time it’s still a lot of time out riding bikes and doing “me”. She’s a big part of what makes any of this possible. Finally, it’s hard to leave out the fine folks at Sycamore Cycles. You can’t really ride bikes that long around here without taking care of your equipment and those guys just get it. Odds are there is someone on staff there who has decent experience in whatever cycling discipline you’re looking for.
Here’s looking forward to a great 2022 .
